What are documents required for the PROVISIONAL/PERMANENT REGISTRATION of Ships?
  1. Bill of Sale
  2. Board resolutions of buying and selling companies (if applicable)
  3. Confirmation of class
  4. Deletion certificate/consent from the current registry.
  5. Current Statutory certificates (copies)
  6. No vessel shall be registered unless at the time of registration, such vessel is classed by one of the following classification societies.(IACS Member Societies)
  • American Bureau of Shipping
  • Bureau Veritas
  • China Classification Society
  • Det Norske Veritas
  • Germanischer Lloyd
  • Korean Register of Shipping
  • Lloyds Register
  • Nippon Kaiji Kyokai
  • Registro Italiano Navale
  • Russian Maritime Register of Shipping
  • Indian Register of Shipping

or any other classification society acceptable to Sri Lanka Administration.

What is the procedure for ships registration?
Documents required for the issue of a provisional registration.

  1. Notarized proof of ownership (Bill of Sale or Builder’s Certificate)
  2. If the applicant owns a vessel under a foreign flag and the vessel is being transferred to Sri Lanka Flag without changing the ownership, proof of ownership duly legalized by competent authority.
  3. Cancellation certificate or consent of the current registry.
  4. Board resolutions from buying and selling companies.
  5. Certificate of class or seaworthiness certificate issued by one of the above mentioned classification societies.
